The nursery was founded in 1985 by Gérard LONG together with two partners (André Marie BERTRAND and Michel SALLE). At the outset they grew some forty species — mainly hedging conifers and a few shrubs — on a two-hectare plot. Within a few years the company had rapidly broadened its range, offering both large batches of varied conifers and flowering shrubs and small batches of collector's plants such as box, holly, azaleas and heathers. This passion for collector's plants gradually turned into an ever-wider diversification of the range, which today comprises more than 460 species, grown over an area of around 16 hectares.
Gérard LONG's two children later became actively involved in the business, and so Laurence and David also played their part in the growth of Trois Chênes, which has since become a solid family business.
To avoid problems during transport and any unnecessary handling, the crates are counted and strapped every two layers and the pallets are wrapped in safety netting.
For more than 25 years, the Les Trois Chênes nursery has been a loyal partner to over 300 professional growers. In France and in neighbouring European countries (Belgium, Germany, Italy and Spain), the company is regarded as a reliable and consistent supplier of quality young plants.
The quality and cleanliness of its plants are the company's hallmark. Thanks to the full traceability of its young plants and its very high responsiveness in both delivery and restocking, the Les Trois Chênes nursery ranks among the market leaders for young plants in France.
When orders are picked, every batch is given an identification label with a barcode so that the plant's traceability is preserved and the different batches can be identified on arrival. The delivery note also states the total number of crates and pallets shipped, as well as, for each plant, the number of crates and their position on the pallet, in order to speed up unloading and avoid mix-ups. Before being offered for sale, plants are trimmed back (unless otherwise instructed), watered and weeded (where needed).
